CEBU, Philippines - A medical doctor got stabbed after he tried to help a man who was being robbed while waiting for a ride along Osmeña Boulevard late Wednesday night.
Dr. Benjamin Alix, Jr., 33, who works at the Chong Hua Hospital, ended up confined at the same hospital for a stab wound in the chest. He needs surgery but is no longer in danger, according to PO1 Reoful Adalim of Homicide Section.
Alix was reportedly standing along the road fronting the Cebu City Public Library past 10 pm, waiting for a ride. He just got off from his shift at the Chong Hua Hospital and was headed for home in Barangay Camputhaw.
He, however, noticed that the man standing near him, who was also waiting for a jeepney, was being robbed.
"Gitutokan kuno og kutsilyo ug nisuway og snatch sa iyang cellphone," narrated Adalim, who talked to the victim at the hospital.
The doctor tried to help by calling the attention of the robber, not noticing that an accomplice was standing nearby.
"Iyang gisita na 'hoy, hoy'. Wa siya kabantay naa diay lookout sa kilid, siya hinuo'y nadunggaban. Duha diay sila kabuok," Adalim added.
The robber's accomplice approached the unsuspecting doctor and stabbed him on the chest using a kitchen knife. The robbers then ran toward Barangay Capitol Site while the doctor, despite being wounded, ran back to Chong Hua Hospital for treatment. The man who was supposed to be the victim also took off.
The victim told the police he could recognize the culprits if he sees them again. He will be shown the rouge's gallery for possible identification. (FREEMAN)
