CEBU, Philippines - At least 580 persons with disabilities (PWDs) qualified to receive financial assistance from the Cebu City Government did not show up until now since the distribution in May.
Ester Concha, head of the City Hall’s Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWS), said the city has a budget of P5,000 cash assistance for each of the 12,000 PWD’s in Cebu City for this year.
However, only 8,268 were qualified to receive the aid because others lack of the needed documents.
Based on City Hall’s records, of the more than 8,000 PWD’s who were supposed to receive their initial P3,000 cash assistance, at least 580 of them that did not collect their share.
“Ambot og unsa’y hinungdan nga ang 580 ka beneficiaries wala man gayud magpakabana nga mokobra sa ilang benefits,†said Leonilo Omayan, president of the PWD Federation in Cebu City.
Those who failed to get their cash assistance last May can no longer claim it but they are still entitled to the remaining P2,000 to be distributed before the yearend.
Meanwhile, Omayan invited his members to attend the celebration of the National Disability Week at the Plaza Independencia Sunday morning. (FREEMAN)
