‘Killers’ of Sonny O’s aid nabbed
CEBU, Philippines - Police nabbed yesterday morning the two suspects in the killing of the bodyguard of Toledo City Mayor John Henry “Sonny†Osmeña.
Suspects Alfredo Olid Candol, 37, of Brgy. Cabitoonan, Toledo City and Francisco Diaz Olid, 38, of Subayun, Toledo City, were in Sitio Jarden, Barangay Carmen, Toledo City.
They were accused of killing Rene Embralinag, 42, of Barangay Captain Claudio, on February 22 this year.
Embralinag, who just paid his bill at the Cebu Electric Cooperative (CEBECO) Inc, office, was onboard his motorcycle heading for Barangay Poblacion when he was tailed by two men on a motorcycle and was shot several times that caused in immediate death.
The Toledo Police led by its acting head, Chief Insp. Michael Anthony Bastes arrested the suspects at about 11:30 a.m. after they received a tip from a concerned citizen about the presence of the two in the area.
They were riding a black Suzuki motorcycle driven by Olid.
Candol has a standing of warrant of arrest for murder issued by Hon. Judge Ruben Altubar of RTC Branch 29 of Toledo City and there is no bail recommended.
“They are known hired killers and they were also identified by the witness,†Bastes told The Freeman in a phone interview.
Police seized from Candol one Colt caliber 45 without serial number, eight ammunition in a magazine and one extra magazine while Olid was allegedly caught having one caliber 357 revolver with four live ammunition in his possession.
The suspects are detained in the Toledo City Police Station.
Osmeña praised Bastes for the accomplishment.
Bastes was just designated as acting police chief of the Toledo City Police Station last week.
Osmeña handpicked Bastes and replaced Supt. Henry Biñas, who was transferred to the Mandaue City Police Office as deputy director.
Bastes was formerly assigned as the chief of the Investigation and Detective Management Bureau of MCPO. (FREEMAN)
