Siblings, 9 and 10, drown in Toledo

CEBU, Philippines - Two siblings drowned in the seawaters off Sitio Lawis, Barangay Luray II, Toledo City early morning yesterday.

Victims Jannylyn Montesclaros, 10, and her younger brother, Jhon, 9, were found floating by fishermen in the area.

They reportedly asked permission from their mother, Lilit, at around 6 a.m. that they will go swimming before going to school.

Victims were both pupils of the South City Central School in Barangay Luray I.

Lilit started looking for her children after they failed to go home at around 7 a.m.

Then, fishermen came to her house and informed her of the incident.

Their bodies were found about three meters away from where they were seen swimming.

Both were rushed to the Toledo City Hospital but were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

The bodies were brought to St. Francis Funeral Homes while police are investigating if there is negligence on the part of the mother. — (FREEMAN)
