CH casuals to know fate within the week

CEBU, Philippines - Casual employees of the Cebu City government will know their fate within the week.

Human Resource Development Office (HRDO) assistant department head Sonny Gimenea yesterday revealed that the names will be posted in each department offices either Wednesday or Thursday this week.

An earlier memorandum by reelected Mayor Michael Rama said that those not on the list are advised not to report starting on July 1.

True to initial announcement of the mayor that about 2,500 casual employees will be gradually replaced, renewed contract personnel will be given two contract periods—six months and three months depending on the performance evaluation.

This, according to Gimenea, is the city government’s way of giving second chance to those who did not pass the standards of the evaluation committee, especially on the premise of not performing well over the past term and even for campaigning against the mayor.

“The committee will be evaluating every month of the performances of those casuals. The mayor wanted to give time to the personnel to improve their performance. This shows that the mayor is fair in giving due process. These people will be under observation,” the HRDO assistant department head added.

Gimenea added that majority of employees who are on the list of not to be renewed will most likely come from either utility or clerk levels.

City hall has a total of 3,308 co-terminus employees deployed at the different departments of the city government.

The evaluation committee, whose names of the members have been withheld by the mayor, is said to be composed of five individuals.

This was formed shortly after Rama was reelected, aiming to assess the performance of the casual employees based on efficiency, capacity, and loyalty to the mayor.

This was after reports circulated about city hall employees who openly campaigned for outgoing Congressman Tomas Osmeña and his Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) candidates. (FREEMAN)
