Garcia, Davide to meet at Capitol for turnover

CEBU, Philippines - For the first time after the May 13 elections, outgoing Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and incoming Governor Hilario Davide III are set to meet this morning at the Capitol.

The meeting is taking place prior to the formal turnover on Friday at the Capitol Social Hall, said Davide’s chief of staff, lawyer Ramil Abing.

Abing and incoming provincial administrator, lawyer Mark Tolentino, yesterday visited Garcia who toured them at the different offices of the Capitol.

“We meet with Gwen for the transition and turnover,” Abing said.

Garcia then met Provincial Board Members Julian Daan, Alex Binghay, Sun Shimura and Jose Ribomapil Holganza Jr.

Shimura confirmed that they discussed about the transition and the turnover ceremony on Friday.

Shimura said they will attend the activity as witnesses to the turnover of power between the outgoing and the incoming governor.

“It is very good for the Province of Cebu nga despite sa kagubot sa election period, after the storm naa gihapon nigawas ang rainbow,” Shimura told reporters.

Shimura said that he will even attend the inauguration and oathtaking ceremony of Davide, Vice Governor Agnes Magpale and some PB members on Sunday at the Capitol.

Shimura however said that he and PB Member Joven Mondigo Jr. will join the oathtaking of fourth district Rep. Benhur Salimbangon on Saturday in Daanbantayan.

“After that we will go back to witness the oathtaking of Davide and Magpale,” Shimura said.

Shimura is an ally of Garcia in One Cebu Party.

Garcia’s brother, outgoing third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia, lost to Davide in the gubernatorial race. Gwen won in the congressional race replacing Pablo John. (FREEMAN)
