CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Police Office is prepared for the rainy season being the frontliners during calamities as support unit of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC).

Cebu Provincial Police Office Director Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador said they have identified the areas that are prone to landslide and flood in Cebu Province.

The cities of Toledo and Naga as well as the town of Balamban are considered as landslide prone areas while the towns of Boljoon, Oslob, Santander and Dumanjug are also monitored as flood prone areas.

It was last October when flood hit Boljoon in southern Cebu  due to typhoon Pablo destroying coastal residences as well as the town’s police station.

Insp. Rico Emperwa, Boljoon police chief, and his personnel carried all their wet documents and files when seawater entered the police station.

“Nag-iyahay sila ug bitbit sa mga dokumento kay pwerte na mang taasa sa tubig.” Comendador said.

Comendador added that the police’s major roles are ensuring public safety and  assisting all local government units in responding to incidents.

Comendador further said he already briefed all chiefs of police of the 50 police stations to provide early advisories to residents.

The PDRRMC convened yesterday as the start of their intensified preparation for the rainy days.

Neil Sanchez, PDRRMC chief, will be meeting with officers in cities and municipalities to discuss preparations in case of calamities.

In addition, canned goods, used clothing and medicines are in place to be distributed to areas that will be hit by floods and landslides. (FREEMAN)
