Robbers hurt 2 in Catmon; wanted man shot by cop

CEBU, Philippines - Two people were injured after they were shot by unidentified robbers last Monday afternoon in Barangay Catmondaan, Catmon, Cebu.

The two unidentified robbers carted away more than P60,000 cash and valuables from the victims.

Eleonor Boto, 27, resident of Barangay Macaas and Florante Pontillas, 42, of Barangay Tinabyonan, sustained gunshot wounds in the shoulder and chest, respectively.

Both were taken to the Juan Dosado Memorial Hospital in Sogod but were later transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City.

Eleonor was with her mother-in-law, Vilma Boto, 56, of Barangay Flores, on board a motorcycle driven by Pontillas when the incident happened.

The victims were heading towards Barangay Tinabyonan when the robbers flagged them down at a secluded area. The armed robbers demanded their valuables but the victims tried to resist.

The robbers took the P56,000 cash, two cellular phones worth P2,000, a pair of earrings worth P1,500 and other important documents from the victims. The robbers then fled on foot towards Barangay Macaas.

Meanwhile, a wanted person who is facing arrest warrant from the court was injured after he was shot by a policeman in Barangay Taytayan, Bogo City last Sunday evening.

Boyne Flores, 21, of Barangay Pandan, allegedly tried to draw his firearm when accosted by PO1 Rodel Hermoso.

Flores was standing along the highway when Hermoso happened to pass by and recognized him. The policeman approached the suspect and introduced himself as law enforcer to serve the arrest warrant.

However, Flores allegedly tried to draw his firearm prompting the police officer to shoot him. Flores was hit in the back and was taken to Bogo Provincial Hospital. Confiscated from the suspect was a Caliber .38 revolver with three live ammunitions.— (FREEMAN)
