Judge’s puncher charged

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - For allegedly punching a trial court judge in the face, a man is now facing charges before the Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office.

Yesterday, the Parian police lodged a complaint for attempted murder against Charlie Alburo, a resident of Cabreros St., Barangay Basak-Pardo.

During inquest proceedings, respondent waived his right to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegation filed against him instead to face it in court.

State Prosecutor Rogelio del Prado recommended a P40,000 bail for respondent’s temporary liberty.

The respondent is currently detained at the Parian Police Station.

Last Sunday, Judge Mario Trinidad, 63, of Regional Trial Court Branch 61 in Bogo City was allegedly punched in the face by Alburo outside the Sacred Heart Parish at D. Jakosalem St., Barangay Zapatera, where he heard Mass.

Earlier that day, Alburo approached the judge and asked him to let him cut the tree behind his house, but the judge declined saying the tree was not his.

Later as he left the church, Alburo, who was waiting for him, suddenly punched him and chased him home.

Based on his report to the Parian Police Station, Trinidad sustained a cut and a bruise in the lower part of his left eye.

Alburo, who was arrested by Zapatera barangay captain Albert “Jinggoy” Reformina Jr., was detained at the police station and later asked Trinidad for forgiveness. But Trinidad decided to pursue the case.  –(FREEMAN)
