Ex-mayor’s brother hurt in shooting
CEBU, Philippines - The younger brother of former Consolacion mayor Avelino Gungob survived from a gunshot wound in the body after an unidentified armed man shot him Wednesday night in Barangay Pulpogan, Consolacion.
Joselito Gungob, 51, resident of Barangay Casili, was playing mahjong with his live-in partner, Analyn Bangkal, and a neighbor in District 5, Pulpogan when the unidentified gunman shot him from behind.
Consolacion police chief, Chief Insp. Marlon Gumabao, said that the victim was hit at the back and the bullet went through the chest. Gumabao said nobody recognized the gunman because the area was dark. The police recovered spent shells of caliber .45 at the crime scene.
Gungob was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where he is now recuperating. The police are now pursuing illegal drugs as possible motive in the shooting of Gungob was the latter was allegedly involved in illegal drugs.
In fact, he was previously arrested for illegal possession of firearms and violation of RA 9165 or Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. — (FREEMAN)
