Ex-cop sued over shooting

CEBU, Philippines - The Talisay City police is set to file today, Monday, complaints for frustrated murder and violation of Comelec gun ban before the city prosecutors office against the retired policeman who allegedly shot a former city councilor and another man in Talisay City.

The Comelec gun ban will be lifted on June 30, 2013.

The case stemmed from the shooting of former city councilor Emilio Go allegedly by retired SPO3 Ulysis Desamparado last Saturday afternoon because of arguments over a cockfight.

Go was wounded in the neck, abdomen and face. Aside from Go, Junrey Larayos also sustained gunshot wound on his abdomen. Larayos is a handler of Go’s fighting cocks.

SPO1 Mikie Espina told The Freeman yesterday that before the shooting took place, Go and Desamparado had already settled their differences.

But according to reports reaching the police, one of Go’s supporters punched Buenafe, the brother of Ulysis who owned one of the fighting cocks that were the subject of the argment.

The punching incident ignited the conflict and resulted in the “gunfight.”

According to Espina, Ulysis’ gun only had five bullets so he withdrew in the middle of the “gunfight.”

Espina said they are waiting for the doctors to allow Go and Larayos to speak so they can give their statements. He also said that Go’s relative refused to give statement because they don’t have any knowledge on the incident.

Espina added that Go was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Chong Hua Hospital last Saturday afternoon while Larayos was not allowed by his doctor in Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center to speak./JPM (FREEMAN)
