CEBU, Philippines - Police arrested a man who reportedly threatened to detonate a grenade at his neighbors in Barangay San Roque yesterday morning.
Waterfront Police Station chief Chief Insp. Wildemar Tiu, identified the suspect as Junel Solon, 45, who was found with an Mk2 “pineapple†grenade.
Tiu said a neighbor of the suspect, who requested anonymity, called up their police station and reported that the suspect was outside his house bringing a grenade past noon yesterday, scaring residents.
“Nanghambog sa iyang granada, nag-gara ug pakita sa iyang mga silingan,†said Tiu.
SPO1 Reynold Malazarte and his companions responded to Sitio Fire Victim along Arellano Boulevard and arrested the suspect.
“Dili man sad siya hubog, pero pirme daw na siya ingon ana, unya makuyawan ang mga silingan,†Tiu further said.
The hand grenade, which had no safety pin, was confiscated from the suspect. Tiu said they will turn it over to the Explosives Ordnance Division.
“Delikado gihapon 'to siya,†the police station chief said.
A charge for violation of the Republic Act 9516 or the Explosives Law and violation of the Commission on Elections gun ban will be filed against the suspect, who is now detained at the police station's detention cell.
Meanwhile, a notorious snatcher was arrested by policemen of the Fuente Police Station conducting a patrol around 11 a.m. last Thursday along N. Bacalso Ave., Barangay Sambag 1, Cebu City.
Michael Acebo, 18, a resident of San Carlos Heights, Barangay Quiot, Cebu City, was arrested after he snatched the necklace of an old woman in a passenger jeepney.
Aside from the recovered necklace, arresting officer PO3 Mark Erric Sy also found a rolled marijuana cigarette inside the suspect's pocket.
The suspect, who is detained at the Fuente Police Station, has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs. (FREEMAN)
