CEBU, Philippines - Two persons who were believed to have been involved in the illegal drugs trade and previous personal grudge were shot dead in separate shooting incidents in the town of Cordova and San Fernando.

A man who allegedly failed to remit his proceeds of illegal drugs was shot dead shortly after midnight yesterday in Sitio Poso, Barangay Poblacion, Cordova.

Ramil Macan of Barangay Bang-Bang was riding on a tricycle with his 11-year-old daughter when the shooting took place.

The victim and his daughter were heading towards Kasadya terminal going to Carbon market when two unidentified assailants on board an XRM motorcycle without plate number appeared and shot Ramil several times, hitting him in the different parts of his body.

Ramil was rushed to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Aldrin Roxas, 21, tricycle driver, said that the assailants sped towards Barangay Cogon after the incident.

Police recovered six empty shells of .45 pistol and a deformed slug of the same caliber.

SPO1 Henry Amores, investigator, said they remain clueless on the identity of the assailants but they are pursuing illegal drugs as primary motive of the crime.

Amores said they received reports that Ramil was an alleged drug pusher and failed to remit his proceeds.

“Wala nuon ni siyay pending case pero daghang reports bahin niya nga muduwa,” Amores said in a phone interview. (He does not have a pending case but we received reports about his illegal trade.)

The police arrested the younger brother of Ramil who was also engaged in the same illegal activity.

Meanwhile, a 34-year-old man was also shot dead by unknown assailant while walking home Thursday past 8:00 p.m. in Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Sangat, San Fernando.

Mike Rosnel Bacus, 34, just left a sari-sari store after he bought a diaper and a cigarette when the assailant fired at him using an  improvised shotgun or pugakhang.

Bacus’ 14-year-old niece saw the incident but she could no longer identify the assailants who immediately fled on foot.

Bacus was rushed to the South General Hospital in Naga City but was declared dead by the attending physician after a few hours.

PO3 Edgar Mantalaba, investigator, said the attending physician saw Bacus was also stabbed the chest aside from the small wounds in the face, neck, and upper extremities.

Mantalaba said they now have the identity of the possible gunman but he refused to disclose the name pending investigation.

He added that the gunman and Bacus held a grudge against each other since a few years back. –/JPM (FREEMAN)
