CEBU, Philippines - A man died while his companion was injured when the motorcycle they were riding hit a taxi early morning yesterday in Barangay Poblacion in the southern town of Sibonga.
Marlon Montera, 25, of Barangay Bato, died of severe injuries in the head while his companion, Marjan Ordeñiza, 24, a resident of Barangay Magcagong, also suffered injuries.
Both victims were rushed to the Dr. Deiparine Medical Clinic, but Montera was declared dead on arrival. Ordeñiza was taken to the Carcar Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Initial investigation conducted by SPO1 Dario Gabac revealed that the two men were heading south past 6 a.m. on board a Honda Wave 125 motorcycle with plate number 1560-OU when Montera reportedly lost control of the vehicle at a curved portion of the road. When this happened, the motorcycle encroached upon the other lane and hit the Toyota Vios.
Both victims were thrown off the motorcycle. Unfortunately, both were not wearing helmets at that time.
The taxi with plate number GXM – 905 was being driven by Wilfredo Ygay, 38, a resident of Barangay Cambigong. The unit is owned by Mauricio Marayan of Talisay City.
Ygay is now detained at the Sibonga police stockade after he voluntarily surrendered to the police right after the incident. He is facing charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and physical injuries.
The taxicab, meanwhile, has been placed under the custody of the police for proper disposition. —/JMO (FREEMAN)
