CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama is planning to meet with the local Korean community in Cebu to show his moral support for them amidst the tension between the North and South Korean nations.
Rama said he wanted to personally discuss with the officials of Cebu Korean Association how those staying in Cebu are taking the crisis back in their homeland.
Known for our hospitality, it is our custom to attend to our visitors especially those based in the country, the mayor said.
Koreans are considered a big market for Cebu’s tourism and education sectors.
The office of Cebu Korean Association Inc., also known as Cebu Hanin Hue Inc., with its president Kunho “Ken†Choi has not given a formal statement in reaction to Rama’s gesture.
An office staff said their office has not received a word from Rama but will forward the information to Choi as soon as he arrives from business errands.
For the past two years, the Cebu Korean Association headed by its president, has staged Cebu Korean Day, a showcase of culture, heritage and the arts.
This includes free showing of award-winning films and performances of traditional dances and songs. (FREEMAN)
