CEBU, Philippines - An Integrated Metro-wide Storm water and Drainage Master Plan for the 13 cities and towns that compose Metropolitan Cebu was approved for endorsement to the Regional Development Council-7 during the first quarter meeting of the Metro Cebu Development and Coordinating Board.
The Philippine Information Agency-7’s press release quoted Engr. Fortunato Sanchez’s statement that “the drainage problem is increasingly a huge common infrastructure financial challenge of these cities and townsâ€
Sanchez, who is the MCDCB sub-committee on infrastructure and utilities chairperson, noted that just one drainage master plan of an LGU may cost about P10 to P15 million.
He cited Cebu City’s drainage plan which was prepared in 2004 and cost about P15M.
“Using that figure to estimate the probable cost of the proposed Integrated Drainage Master Plan for Metro Cebu would cost about P120M-150M,†Sanchez said.
The said figure, according to Sanchez, includes the detailed engineering design to facilitate the immediate implementation of the projects by the LGUs.
The statement added that to date, nine out of 13 LGUs have already submitted their respective drainage plans to the MCDCB-Research, Program and Organizational Development.
Discussions and resolutions among various institutions and committees such as the MCDCB, DPWH-7, RDC-infrastructure committee were collated to come up with the terms of reference (TOR) and final recommendations for program funding. (FREEMAN)
