Candidates ready for local campaign kickoff

CEBU, Philippines - Unlike the Liberal Party, One Cebu provincial candidates will not hold caravan during its local kickoff campaign on Monday, April 1.

One Cebu gubernatorial candidate, Rep. Pablo John Garcia yesterday said that their slates in different cities and towns will be having their own kickoff proclamation rally in their respective localities.

“They expect us to be there, we are trying to coordinate this,” Garcia said.

On Monday, Garcia and his runningmate, Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV, will attend the activities in Boljoon and Alcoy in the south in the morning while in Daabantayan in the north in the evening.

One Cebu has the most number of incumbent candidates and has the most complete slates in 51 cities and municipalities in the province.  Garcia met yesterday some mayors to finalize schedules of rallies per district.

“Probably, towards the end of the campaign, one big rally for One Cebu,” he said.

Garcia added that Vice President Jejomar Binay has asked them to have him informed should there be a rally which he can attend.

LP gubernatorial candidate Hilario “Junjun” Davide III yesterday claimed that the areas like Bogo City, Tuburan, Pinamungajan, Santan-der and Talisay City where they are set to have rallies are their stronghold.

Even if the mayor of  Talisay City, Socrates Fernandez, is not their ally, Davide still claimed it to be their stronghold based on 2010 elections where he won against suspended Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Davide said LP also has a strong slate in Talisay City this coming election.

Davide and his runningmate, acting Governor Agnes Magpale, will lead the caravan on Monday.  — (FREEMAN)
