CEBU, Philippines - A church official urged teachers not to be influenced by external pressure during the election period this May.
Monsignor Esteban Binghay, the Episcopal vicar of the Archdiocese of Cebu, said this during a one-day retreat for over 800 teachers in the Carcar City division held at the Theotokos Diocesan Shrine in Carcar City, the other day.
“The teachers should be very careful to do their thing, not to be dictated by the influence of the outsiders. The teachers should take care not to be influenced from outside pressure but to do their duties before God and their conscience,†Binghay said.
Binghay also shared a reflection of the Holy Week and spiritual inputs in relation to the work of the teachers.
The said one-day retreat was suggested by the Parish Pastoral Council of St. Catherine’s Parish with the Department of Education.
Binghay said that a memorandum of agreement between the Parish and DepEd Division of Carcar was issued, letting all the teachers undergo the said spiritual retreat as a preparation for their service during the May 2013 elections.
Among the activities was Confession, which was followed by a Mass celebrated by Fr. Vir Pedrano, the parish priest of Barangay Valladolid, Carcar City.
The said retreat is also coordinated by Msgr. Rolando Jimenez, the parish priest of St. Catherine’s Parish. — (FREEMAN)
