11 women rescued from Guizo bar

CEBU, Philippines - Eleven women were “rescued” after the police, representatives of the City Social Welfare and Services and the International Justice Mission (IJM) conducted an anti-human trafficking operation inside a bar in barangay Guizo, Mandaue City last Wednesday evening.

In an interview with P/Insp. Sheryl Bautista, the head of the women’s desk of the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO), she said that the raid was conducted after they received a tip that sexual activities has been on going inside Sunrise Bar in brgy. Guizo.

A surveillance inside the bar was then conducted for two days and they were able to see that the information was true.

The police found proof that sexual activities such as indecent shows and sexual intercourse occurred inside the private rooms of  the said establishment. This prompted the police to conduct an entrapment operation.

During the said operation, the 33-yr-old cashier of the said establishment and her 17-yr-old aid were arrested after the two received P3,600 “bar fines” to “take out” three girls from the said establishment.

During the raid, police were also able to rescue 11 women who were allegedly engaged in indecent shows and other sexual activities and were turned over to the city’s social welfare office.

Bautista said that the rescued women will be made to undergo a test to check how many of them were minors. They also issued affidavits for the filing of human trafficking cases against the two arrested suspects.  (FREEMAN)
