CEBU, Philippines - Three persons, including two minors, were arrested after they were accused of killing a Dutch national last Saturday morning in Barangay Cogon West, Carmen.
The suspects were arrested separately in a hot pursuit operation by Carmen police Tuesday afternoon.
Police first nabbed Raymark Quiseo, 19, at his residence in Barangay Baring around 3:00 p.m. His arrest then led to the arrest of the two other suspects aged 16 and 17 at their residences in Barangay Cogon West 30 minutes later.
The minor suspects were taken to the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office while Quiseo was detained at the police stockade as police prepared appropriate charges against them.
Police said the suspects did not resist arrest and even admitted the crime.
The three were accused of stabbing to death Dutch national, Pieter Tuitel, 74, of McKenly St., Barangay Cogon West.
PO2 Jerome Quimque, of the Carmen Police Station, said that suspects destroyed the sliding glass window of the house and went directly to one of the rooms upstairs.
The loud thuds from the other room woke Tuitel who went to check and caught the suspects by surprise.
“Murag nakasukol ang biktima unya maong nadunggaban. (The victim may have fought back the suspects that’s why he was stabbed.)†Quimque said in a phone interview.
Due to fear, the suspects hurriedly fled on foot without stealing anything.
Quimque disclosed they received several theft complaints against the 16-year-old suspect but there was no case filed by any of the complainants as he was a minor.
“Reports lang wala gyud ma-fili kay matud nila wala ra gihapon na kay menor kuno, (We just received reports. No one filed charges because the suspect is a minor.)†he said.
The suspects are out-of-school youth and were allegedly not given much attention by their parents. (FREEMAN)
