CEBU, Philippines - “Undelivered promises†made by suspended Governor Gwendolyn Garcia led the United Fraternities and Brotherhood organization of Toledo City to shift their support to Liberal Party candidates Hilario “Junjun†Davide and acting Governor Agnes Magpale for governor and vice governor, respectively, for the May 2013 elections.
Yesterday morning, UFAB representatives from Toledo City pledged their support to Magpale’s leadership as acting governor and her 2013 candidacy.
UFAB organizer Jason Blanco said they decided to support Magpale because they consider her leadership effective where projects are concerned.
Blanco said they supported Garcia in the previous election as the suspended governor promised members of their group employment opportunities, which they said were not fulfilled.
The group assured they are not after revenge or trouble. Blanco said they only want development for their members and for fraternities to regain the trust of the public and correct the misconception that their groups are only involved in violence.
Apart from the two, Blanco said that they will also support the candidacy of Geraldine Yapha for 3rd district representative, John Henry Osmeña for Mayor and Antonio Yapha Jr. for Vice Mayor.
UFAB in Toledo currently has more than 10,000 members who are also members of the fraternities Young Guardians, Guardians, Doskelion, Alpha Sigma Omega, Avestan, Hangteenians, the Toledo Youth Council and known rival fraternities Alpha Kappa Rho and Tau Gamma Phi.
One Cebu’s gubernatorial bet, 3rd district Rep. Pablo John Garcia doubts though that there is such a group with 10,000 members.
“Congratulations because that’s the first time anyone ever heard of a ten-thousand member group of fraternities. Good luck finding those ten thousand,†he said.
Blanco assured their group is valid and their master list includes more than 10,000 members in Toledo City alone. He said that for the safety of their members they would not divulge the list. (FREEMAN)
