Capitol says not all barangay workers get P2,400 cash aid

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Capitol has clarified that not all barangay volunteer workers get P2,400 cash assistance as earlier reported.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Cristina Giango, made the clarification following some complaints that some got P2,400 while others got P1,500 each.

Acting Governor Agnes Magpale distributed the cash assistance promised by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia after the latter was suspended for six months.

Giango said that only barangay health workers (BHWs), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS) and day care workers get P2,400 each for this year.

They used to receive P1,500 each in the past years but Garcia promised to increase the amount before her suspension.

Giango said that barangay tanods and barangay animal health aide remain at P1,500 each like in the previous years.

Magpale will resume the distribution on February 26 for the 15 towns in the second district.

Giango said the distribution including those in the islands of Camotes and Bantayan is set until March 20 before the local campaign starts on March 29.

Magpale earlier explained that the review of the financial status of the province has delayed the distribution.

Barangay volunteer workers used to receive the assistance from Garcia before Christmas since its implementation.

Magpale earlier declared that the Province of Cebu is short of funds after a lot of payables have piled up in her office amounting to almost P1 billion.

Some barangay captains in Carcar City complained that not all tanods received the assistance.

Paul Alcordo, of Guadalupe, Carcar City, brought up the complaints of his fellow barangay captains who, according to him, were dismayed by how the present management of the Capitol distributed the cash aid.

Both Magpale and Giango explained that the number of tanods given cash assistance was based on the list submitted to them. (FREEMAN)
