BOPK to hold six rallies in 2 days

CEBU, Philippines - Instead of holding one huge political rally, the Bando Osmeña Pundok-Kauswagan (BOPK) decided to hold six political gatherings in north and south districts of Cebu City during the first days of the campaign for the local candidates that will start March 29.

Cebu City South District Rep. Tomas R. Osmeña said their purpose of doing it is to avoid hassles for people who wish to attend the political gatherings in order to listen to the speeches of the candidates.

There will be three political rallies in the north district and three other political gatherings in the south district in just two days, Osmeña said.

One of the probable areas where the BOPK will hold its rallies is in Talamban for the mountain barangays of the north district and Pardo for those living in the south district.

Osmeña did not give the other areas where BOPK will hold its political gatherings, which he said is aimed to expose their candidates to the people not just for photo opportunity as what their political opponents did.

According to Osmeña there is no more need to ferry their supporters from their respective places to the venue of the rally just to listen to the speeches of the candidates, unless if they are still not convinced to support to them.

The former city mayor explained that holding rallies in strategic areas of the city will allow the people to see the candidates and to listen to their speeches without going to far venues.

Osmeña had earlier asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to investigate the use of government-owned vehicles by the United Nationalist Alliance-Team Rama to ferry their supporters to attend the rally at Plaza Independencia.

Unlike BOPK which openly announced holding six political rallies, three each at North and South Districts, Team Rama leader Mayor Mike Rama said they have plans in place.

“Dugay na ming nagplano,” Rama told reporters.

However, the mayor refused to divulge details since local campaign period is still in March.

“We still have to meet. We will not be making outright pronouncements at this time. Anyway March 29 is still over a month from now. We already have plan which includes rallies,” he added.  (FREEMAN)
