CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has requested the City Treasurer’s Office to release the honorarium of the barangay tanods and members of the Lupong Tagapamayapa on a monthly basis.
Councilor Alvin Arcilla sponsored the resolution after he observed that the release of the honorarium was not regularly done.
Arcilla said he noticed that sometimes the honorarium is given three months late. He believes that honorarium of tanods and lupon members should be done on a monthly basis to boost their morale.
Under the Local Government Code, each barangay is allowed to hire at least 10 but not more than 20 lupon members to hear conflicts among its constituents.
Each barangay is also allowed to hire a maximum of 20 tanods to help maintain peace and order.
Arcilla said in the 2013 annual budget, the City Council approved the proposal to increase the allocated funds for the honorarium of lupon members and tanods at P4,000 each every month. (FREEMAN)
