Burglars cart away about P100T worth of valuables

CEBU, Philippines - Unidentified  burglars carted almost P100,000 worth of valuables in a burglary incident at the Jimsville Subdivision in Purok Kawayan, Barangay Tayud, Liloan, early morning Tuesday.

Getty Baruc, 41, and her five children, discovered the incident when they woke up around 4:30 a.m., which prompted them to call for police assistance.

Upon checking their belongings, Baruc noticed that their Acer laptop worth P35,000; Nokia Asha 200 worth P4,000; P5,000 cash; two pieces of gold and diamond rings worth P25,000; a pair of gold earrings worth P16,000 and one gold necklace worth P10,000 were missing.

SPO4 Winrie Pilapil, investigator, said there was no forced entry when the burglars entered the house through the French windows.

He, however, added that burglars could also make their way inside the house through the terrace at the second floor of the house.

He suspected that there could be two burglars, an adult and a minor.

“Murag dunay bata kay gamay ra gyud ang abli sa bintana unya og sung-ayon niya iyang kauban igo gyud makakapyot agi sa terrace sa second floor. (A minor may have been involved because the window opening was small and if the minor would go up the adult suspect’s shoulders, it would be the right height to hang on to the terrace on the second floor),” Pilapil said in a phone interview.

Once inside, burglars then took pieces of jewelries inside the master’s bedroom where Baruc was sleeping. The cash was also inside a figurine and the laptop at the living room.

The heavy rain at that time was an added factor for burglars not to be noticed by the victims.

Even the guard at the subdivision also failed to notice the unidentified men enter the area.

“Ang guard nag-roving kuno anang orasa unya siya ra man usa, dako pud ang subdivision. (The guard was reportedly patrolling the area at that time but he was alone and it’s a huge subdivision),” Pilapil said.

The Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) of the Cebu Provincial Police Office already conducted a latent print-lifting at the scene. — (FREEMAN)
