College student, 18, commits suicide

CEBU, Philippines - An 18-year-old college student committed suicide inside their sari-sari store early morning yesterday in Sitio Malipayon, Barangay Inayawan, Cebu City.

Jaydrien Aveles, who was taking up Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in one of the universities in the city, was found hanging lifeless by their store laborer, Jessa Amante, around 6:00 in the morning.

Aveles used a nylon rope which he looped around his neck. The rope was attached to a beam inside the store. He was no longer taken to the hospital.

Amante was opening the store when he saw Aveles hanging with a sack of rice beneath him.

“Igo ra siya nipatong sa usa ka sako nga bugas nga diha sa tungod dili gyud ingon nga taas iyang gilayatan,” SPO1 Raquel Camay of Pardo Police Station said in a phone interview. (He climbed on a sack of rice then hanged himself.)

The family of Aveles then called for police assistance.

Aveles was described by his brother as a silent person and did not have any girlfriend.

The real reason for the incident is still vague. Police already requested the family of Aveles to subject the body to an autopsy.  (FREEMAN)
