Titay’s to set aside P3.6M for Liloan SEF
CEBU, Philippines - The local government of Liloan will now have another source for its Special Education Fund aside from real property taxes.
The oldest business establishment in the town, Titay’s Liloan Rosquillos and Delicacies Inc. which is established in 1907, is embarking on improving the quality of education as part of its corporate responsibility.
Its new product, Titay’s Rosquillos Corazon (Rosquillos with a Heart) was launched yesterday by the Frasco family and was attended by teachers and school officials of Liloan.
Titay’s chief executive officer, Aljo Fernando Frasco, announced that as a way of giving back to the society, P2.50 for every pack of Rosquillos Corazon sold will be set aside for the SEF of Liloan led by his cousin, Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke†Frasco.
“At Titay’s, we’ve always tried to be at the crossroads of doing business and helping out the community in any way we can,†Aljo said.
Mayor Frasco said that they are expecting P3.6 million per year of share to the SEF out of the projected 100,000 to 150,000 packs of Rosquillos Corazon.
The municipality has an appropriation of P10 million for SEF for school year 2012-2013.
Mayor Frasco said that P10 million is too small to address all the needs in education as they are targeting to accomplish their goal to have a ratio of one teacher per 45 pupils in a class.
The Local School Board of Liloan is paying 73 locally-hired teachers at P9,500 per month, the highest in the Province of Cebu, while 15 teachers are paid under the Office of the Mayor at P6,250 per month.
The mayor also announced the plan to establish the Liloan Community College in his next term if elected again as mayor this coming election.
Mayor Frasco said that the original plan of Titay’s was to give the money to charitable institutions outside but he insisted to also give to the Liloanons.
The funds derived from the share shall be used for schools infrastructure, physical facilities, training and skills development of teachers, reading materials, computers and science laboratories and hiring of additional school board teachers.
Schools district supervisor Richard Acaso expressed his gratitude to the management of Titay’s for choosing education as part of its corporate social responsibility.
“It is most fitting to say Rosquillos with a heart is a heart that truly loves the Liloanons. For every bite of rosquillos, it means a big heart shared by the owners of Titay’s who truly love education,†Acaso said.
The Operation Smile Philippines is also getting the same amount set aside for the SEF, said Aljo.
The share will be released quarterly according to Mayor Frasco. (FREEMAN)
