CEBU, Philippines - A retired warden of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center was burned to death inside a vehicle which caught fire last Tuesday evening at Sitio Cantipla II, Barangay Tabunan Cebu City.

Retired Colonel Salvador Sanchez, 64, was burned to death inside the multi-cab van with plate number GPY-184 last Tuesday at around 6:00 in the evening

Residents said they were inside their house preparing dinner when they heard an explosion.

They immediately went outside and found the vehicle of Sanchez already ablaze.

Bacus immediately sought the assistance of Barangay Tabunan Councilor William Radana who then called the police.

Initial investigation revealed that the multi-cab van was loaded with thinner.

According to the victim’s neighbor, Jun Alcover, the son of Sanchez said their vehicle was really defective.

Alcover said that Sanchez was a retired Warden of the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) and a resident of Capitol Hills.

The victim’s remains were taken to Sure Life Funeral Services for autopsy.

Meanwhile, a man died and another was injured in a vehicular accident on the national highway of Barangay Poblacion, Alcantara, early morning yesterday.

Joseph Panerio, of Barangay Veve, Alcantara, was declared dead on arrival at the Badian District Hospital due to severe injuries in different parts of his body while his back rider, Michael Gelasque, 26, sustained minor injuries.

Both victims were on board a red Racal motorcycle without a plate number. They were heading home from Moalboal town where they attended a benefit dance when the incident happened.

PO3 Ludivico Odever, of the Alcantara Police Station, said that as the victims reached the curved portion of the road near St. Augustine Church, Panerio reportedly lost control of the motorcycle and hit the metal railings along the road.

Due to the strong impact, victims were thrown off the road causing injuries to both.
