Rama warns public vs. people using his name

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama warned the public about some people who use his name or the names of his family without authority to take advantage of other people.

Rama issued the warning after he received a complaint from his son Mikel whose name was reportedly used by an unidentified person to transact in a mall here.

"My son called me, alarmed that his name was used kuno by someone sa usa ka shop sa Ayala. So I want to warn the public to be careful with people like that," Rama said.

The mayor said he and his children do not normally transact over the phone so those who may have received calls from someone claiming to be a Rama must verify first with the Office of the Mayor or better yet, call their residence.

Rama was alarmed about this modus, which has troubled a shop already in the past.

Sometime last month, swindlers victimized a camera service shop in Banilad Town Center. The swindlers took away P100,000 worth of cameras and parts.

The swindlers called the shop using the name Dr. Rama to order the two stolen cameras. This Dr. Rama told the staff that his son Atty. Rama will pick up the items.

Rama also advised shops to be careful when accepting phone transactions. —/JPM (FREEMAN)
