CEBU, Philippines - The Beautiful Cebu Movement Foundation, Inc. will spearhead the official “switch on ceremony” of the lighting along the restored Osmeña Boulevard, a part of the multi-million privately initiated beautification project.
A short program will be held at the Cebu Normal University with Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, the foundation’s chairperson Mariquita Salimbangon-Yeung and other guests before proceeding to the site.
Now that the beautification project is completed, Yeung is appealing to all Cebuanos to help maintain the project.
“This is our beloved Cebu. We have to make it clean. Let us not park the cars along the sidewalk in order not to ruin the bricks. Please do not throw your garbage anywhere,” Yeung said.
Yeung added that it pains her much to see cars parked on the recently done sidewalk.
“The sidewalk is intended for people to walk not for cars to park,” she said.
The foundation’s beautification project is from Fuente Osmeña to Capitol and from Fuente Osmeña to Osmeña Boulevard. There are about 180 lampposts installed from Sanciangko Street to the Capitol.
The foundation is non-political and non-profit. The Cebu City Government has no counterpart in this multi-million restoration project.
The beautification project includes lighting of the trees, installing lampposts and concreting with bricks on the sidewalks and the center island. —JPM (FREEMAN)
