RDC asks DPWH study road to link V. Rama & Gorordo

CEBU, Philippines -  The Regional Development Council yesterday requested the Department of Public Works and Highways to make a feasibility study for the possible construction of another road project that will link V. Rama Ave. in Guadalupe and Gorordo Ave. in Lahug.

RDC chairman and Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama said the proposed road project will be constructed parallel to the existing Escario St. which starts from in front of the Cebu Provincial Capitol up to Archbishop Reyes Ave.

The RDC members said they observed that Escario St. always experiences heavy traffic particularly during peak hours, hence they decided to ask DPWH to conduct a feasibility study for the construction of a new road.

Records show that in 2001, the RDC had already passed a similar resolution requesting DPWH to conduct a study of a road linking V. Rama Ave. to Gorordo Ave., but it was not given favorable attention by the DPWH.

The RDC’s Infrastructure Development Committee believes it is about time that DPWH constructed an alternate road.

Once constructed, the new road will not only decongest heavy traffic along Escario St., but will also improve the road network of Cebu City.

At present, motorists from Guadalupe heading to Lahug have to pass through a narrow road beside the Guadalupe Barangay Hall to the vicinity of Singson Village near the Guadalupe River.

From there, motorists will again pass through the bridge to Obedience St., which is already part of Barangay Kalunasan, and turn left to Peace Valley then up to near the entrance of Beverly Hills.

From Beverly Hills, the motorists will turn right passing through Sudlon St. to Gorordo Ave.

The recommendation of RDC is to build a road from Singson Village that will come out in Gorordo Ave. near the University of the Philippines.   (FREEMAN)
