Madridejos town celebrates Isda Festival

CEBU, Philippines -  Governor Gwendolyn Garcia took a ride of a tourist bus she turned over to the Municipality of Madridejos, Bantayan Island in a brief tour of the town yesterday led by Mayor Salvador dela Fuente.

Joining them were One Cebu gubernatorial candidate, third district Rep. Pablo John Garcia and runningmate, former Danao City vice mayor Ramon “Boboy” Durano IV, Provincial Board members Sun Shimura, Joven Mondigo Jr. and Jose Ribomapil Holganza Jr. and some municipal and barangay officials.

Gov. Garcia led in the inauguration of newly concreted road named Concepcion St., in honor of their patron saint, Immaculate Conception. The town was celebrating its fiesta yesterday.

After the inauguration, the group proceeded to Madridejos Multi-Purpose Building to grace the Isda Festival participated by five contingents from different clustered barangays.

Aside from showing his ability as “tour guide,” dela Fuente impressed the guests and audience by singing “The Prayer” with a lady resident of the town at the opening of the program before the festival showdown competition.

Dela Fuente thanked Gov. Garcia for all the projects given to his municipality.

Rep. Garcia in his fiesta message congratulated Madridejos for holding its festival and giving pride to their constituents for winning in the last Pasigarbo sa Sugbo Festival of Festivals.

Isda Festival got second place in 2011 and third in 2012 Pasigarbo sa Sugbo, a program of the Province of Cebu every year, held at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City.

Pablo John assured that he will continue the program once elected governor in next year’s election. He also promised to continue giving assistance to the programs and projects of the local government as his sister has been doing now.

Gov. Garcia turned over P300,000 worth of check to dela Fuente as financial assistance for the festival and she also formally turned over the key of the tourist bus.

Madridejos is among the 26 recipients of tourist buses the Province of Cebu has provided to local government units who are successful in their tour packages and tourism promotions. — Gregg M. Rubio and Kristine B. Quintas, USJR Masscom Intern/JPM (FREEMAN)
