ABC happy with bill extending term to 5 years
CEBU, Philippines - “Three years or five years is not enough.”
So said Cebu City ABC President Michael Ralota when asked about the approval of the Senate bill seeking an extension of two years in the term of office for officials of the barangays and Sangguniang Kabataan.
If this pushes through, their term of office will be five years instead of three.
The senate committee on local government headed by Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has approved Bill Number 3296.
Marcos said that the government can save money if the terms of office are extended because holding elections is too expensive.
Ralota said that being a member of the board of the National Liga ng mga Barangay, he was able to follow the history of the bills passed in Congress.
He said there were many bills passed citing four years or five years but the Senate approved the five year-term.
Ralota said this is a good development because three years is not enough.
“There were many unfinished projects,” he said. (FREEMAN)
