CEBU, Philippines — Alegria and Dumanjug both scored a clean 4-0 sweep in their respective brackets under the 7th District cluster to advance outright to the quarterfinal round of the 2019 Cebu Governor’s Cup Inter-Cities and Municipalities Under 21 Developmental Basketball Tournament.

The rampaging Alegria capped its elimination round campaign with a 118-55 obliteration of the hapless Moalboal in what is by far the most one-sided victory in three three-month cage wars, while Dumanjug also kept its undefeated record intact with a 97-73 thrashing of Malabuyoc.

Though already assured of a spot in the next stage of the tournament, Alegria and Dumanjug will still figure in a knockout match for the 7th District title on April 5 at the Alegria municipal gym. The winner will pocket a P100,000 bonus, while the loser will receive P50,000 consolation.

Elsewhere, Tabuelan and Cordova stunned their previously unbeaten foes to keep their quarterfinal hopes alive.

Over at the Medellin municipal gym in northern Cebu, the in-form Tabuelan ended the four-game winning streak of Madridejos in lopsided fashion, 99-81.

Tabuelan bombed eight 3-pointers in the first quarter alone that shattered the fighting spirit of Madridejos the rest of the way.

“Teamwork was the key to our victory. We play as one. Every player is involved in our offense and we have great defense. I told my players that if we trust each other and believe in themselves, good things will happen after the game,” said Tabuelan coach Jeff Codera, a US-based Cebuano skills trainer and coach who is a member of the NBA’s Golden State Warriors training camp.

With an improved 3-2 record, Tabuelan stayed in contention in the tight quarterfinal race in the 4th District currently  dominated by Madridejos and Bogo City with identical 4-1 slates.

Bogo triumphed for the fourth time at the expense of San Remigio, 79-76, while the Medellin Sweeteners crushed Tabogon, 95-68, to raise their mark to 3-1.

At the Cordova Sports Complex, Cordova dealt the Consolacion Sarok Weavers their first loss via a 105-94 decision.

Cordova evened its record to 2-2 while Consolacion dropped to 2-1. A triple-tie looms in the 6th District battle if ever Mandaue gets back at Consolacion in their rematch next week. (EBV)
