How to be cool in school
You spend most of your time at school. It is where you meet most of your friends. Wouldn’t it be great if you become popular for being cool? Try the following tips:
• Smile to everyone you meet in the hallway. You will be surprised at how instantly they smile back.
• Politely greet the teachers and other members of the faculty as you see them. Do not shout their name if they are too far from you. They like courteous children.
• If you see someone carrying too many things, offer to assist him or her. You don’t have to carry the heaviest load, but your thoughtfulness will make them feel special.
• During the flag raising ceremony, stand straight and proudly sing the “Lupang Hinirang” (Philippine National Anthem). Little by little, other students will notice what you are doing and follow.
• When transferring from one classroom to another, put your hands behind you and walk quietly. Do not make any noise at the lobby when passing by during class time. Teachers appreciate it when you don’t disrupt their classes.
• Listen to the teachers when they tell you something, especially when they are giving instructions. It will help you avoid asking unnecessary questions, which most teachers do not really like.
• Respect the opinion of others. When someone expresses an idea different from yours, listen to him or her. Do not insist on telling them what you think. People like it when you know how to listen.
• When there is something that needs to be done but no one bothers to act on it, volunteer to lead by taking the first step. Show others that it is better to focus on what you can do, instead of complaining that the task is too difficult.
• Always have a book with you. Show your classmates that reading is the best way to spend a free period. Some friendships are built by reading a book together.
• Be a good friend. Be available when someone needs your help. Remember that a friend in need is a friend indeed. - Zaida Marie A. Tambis
