CEBU, Philippines — Last Friday’s downpour didn’t discourage hundreds of Cebuanos and visitors to Cebu from taking part in “Gabii Sa Kabilin” (GSK) 2018.
With this year’s theme “Balangay,” GSK focused on various aspects of pre-colonial Bisaya culture through presentations and reenactments of everyday life in Cebu before the arrival of the Spaniards in 1521. It was the first of a series of lead-up events to the 500th anniversary of Ferdinand Magellan’s discovery of the Philippines by 2021.
Guided tours organized by 29 heritage sites that participated in GSK 2018 were enjoyed by museum visitors, along with activities and mini-games ranging from clay-pot painting to beaded necklace making.
Cultural presentations at the Museo Sugbo, Casa Gorordo and the Jose R. Gullas Halad Museum were among the well-attended features, as well as tartanilla rides from Fort San Pedro to the Sugbu Chinese Heritage Museum site.
Spearheaded by the Ramon Aboitiz Foundation Inc., it was the 12h GSK event last Friday.
