CEBU, Philippines — Figurative and abstract paintings made by the participants of a recently concluded summer art enrichment workshop are currently on display at the third level of the Ayala Center Cebu.
Titled “Summer Art Workshop” and ongoing until the second half of June, the show features artworks made by kids and teens who took part in a workshop with the member-artists of Cebu Artists Inc. (CAI).
Conducted in April, the workshop maintained CAI’s Gestaltist approach in teaching young artists to hone and fine-tune their skills with the basics and essentials of color theory, structure and light-and-shade techniques, then letting them see for themselves how these have an effect in their art. Works which used paintings by some of the world’s famous artists as reference are also featured in the exhibit, ranging from the color-rich dabs of impressionist Vincent Van Gogh to the enthralling compositions of modernist Marc Chagall.
The workshop was not so much on theory but a more hands-on approach.
Many of the displayed works are masterful renderings of the art-making principles, evidencing that scale, balance and perspective were also taught in the workshop.
The produced paintings range from still lifes, landscapes to abstract expressionist styles.
