A Night of Opera and Drama from China

CEBU, Philippines — The Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino was the setting when the China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater Troupe of China performed the cultures of China last March 6. The Festival of Spring was organized by the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council, Consulate General of the People`s Republic of China in Cebu , and the Cebu Filipino- Chinese United Community.

 

The performances included“The Yellow River” dance, showing the fighting spirit of the Chinese people; and“The Drunken Concubine” dance, featuring Yang GuiFei , one of the Four Beauties of Ancient China, who is said to become more gentle and graceful when she is drunk. Yang Ji Quiang, from the Frontline Art Troupe, showcased his skills in playing the traditional Hu Qin and Er Hu.

And one of the most applauded performances that night was “The Water Spirits” dance, whichshowed the beauty of water and its importance as being the source of life.

The Consul General of the Chinese Consulate in Cebu is Shi Yong and  heading the Filipino-Chinese United Community in Cebu was Ambassador Frank Benedicto. Both got all the thanks from the audience for the marvelous presentation.
