CEBU, Philippines - Bohol has some of the most beautiful beaches in the entire country, making the island a good destination for the Holy Week and Visita Iglesia.  There also beautiful churches to find in Bohol!

The usual reason why people want to visit Bohol is for the breathtaking Chocolate Hills, which are rounded limestone formations. Bohol also boasts numerous caves, waterfalls, rivers, and white sand beaches. Its numerous annual festivals bring people together to celebrate turning points in history like the Sandugo and Sinulog.

On the other hand, Holy Week and Visita Iglesia in Bohol highlight some of the most beautiful churches in the entire country. Dauis Church is quite famous for its Gothic mix of artistic styles and designs. The stained glass windows and religious symbols in the church give it a distinct character from the other churches on the island. And there are still other beautiful churches to visit and see in Bohol.

La Purisima Concepcion De La Virgen Maria Parish Church; Baclayon

This church has been declared a National Cultural Treasure, so there is no doubt that it’s one that visitors to Bohol must check out. It was founded in 1596, and the place became a parish in 1717. The design is of neoclassical style, with a façade and various images of saints in the interior.

Santo Niño Parish Church; Valencia

This church is something a little different. Its interior is interesting, as it is unpainted, looking authentically rustic. It has wooden floors, alternating dark wood and light wood, and bare concrete walls. The entire look of the church is something of neoclassical.

Ubay Church; Ubay

The town of Ubay became a parish in 1877, and the church was built that year. The original church was damaged by a typhoon in 1968. The damaged parts of the church were rebuilt, while the parts not destroyed still remain.

 

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Parish; Lila

This concrete church in Lila town church is said to have been completed in 1925.  Its portico is flanked by bell towers, and the altars are of neoclassical lines and design. There are flanking aisles in the interior of the church, simplistic yet astonishing sight.

Our Lady of Assumption Church; Dauis

The construction of the church was started in 1863, and completed in 1879. One beautiful thing about this church is the mix of artistic styles and design, in addition to the overall Gothic influence. There are stained glass windows, paintings of angels and religious symbols. The church façade is semi-modern.

St. Paul the Apostle Church; Inabanga

Situated next to the Inabanga River amid a serene and peaceful environment, the church is perfect for Lenten reflection. Its façade bear gothic elements, and the front entrance has a portico.  Overall, though, the church has a modern look. The tabernacle is situated beneath the crucifix, in a prominent area in the center of the church.

Sto. Niño Parish Church; Cortes

The church is built entirely from cut coral stone blocks. It was constructed during the 19th century, with its bell tower completed in the 20th century. It’s an interesting blend of classic and modern design. There are floral carvings in the doorway and frescoes on the ceilings. This church sits high up on a hill, and is a cruciform shape.
