CEBU, Philippines - Why is it so important to develop humility? It is a really good question to ask yourself. Or could you say that you have been sufficiently humble?
Humility is not something we finally achieve, it is something we seek and demonstrate each and every day.
Humility is God’s commandment.
Of God’s many commandments one of the most important is to be humble. Without humility why would we obey God’s other commandments? How can we be willing to do the Lord’s will if our hearts are full of pride? We cannot.
Humility makes us more obedient.
Jesus clearly taught that without humility we cannot enter the kingdom of Heaven. Having humility makes us more willing to learn new things. Being young children, there is so much we need to learn. And we look to our parents to teach us. Being humble makes us teachable.
Humility is a requirement for forgiveness.
To be forgiven of our sins we need to be humble. Actually, developing humility is a part of the repentance process.
If we humble ourselves, pray and turn away from sin, God will hear our prayers and forgive us.
Humility is needed for prayers to be answered.
If we want God to answer our prayers, we must be humble. Praying is similar to asking our parents to give us what we want. We need to be humble in asking, or else they won’t give it to us.
Sincerely giving thanks for blessings received requires humility.
To give thanks sincerely is also like admitting that we had asked for something we couldn’t get on our own. That’s humility. And so when it is given to us, and we need to give thanks for it.
Humility opens the door to truth.
To seek God, and know the truths about His creations, we must become humble to pray for enlightenment. Without humility, we will not be open enough to see the truth that God will show us.
Humility makes sure that we don’t lose our faith.
With humility in our hearts, we will not turn away from God because we know we are all at God’s mercy. Our humble hearts will always look up to God to bless us, to keep us safe and prosperous.
Humility is a strength – not a weakness.
Our weaknesses help us to be humble. Once we become humble, we are strong. Humility stretches our limits in facing life’s challenges. We become open to do more things, without fear of being looked down on by others. In the end, we accomplish more. (www.thoughtco.com)
