The Cebu City Triathlon kicks off the 2017 racing season.
This is a sprint distance race that covers 750-meters swim at the CCSC pool, 20-kilometer bike and 5K run. The CCT is the only triathlon event that takes place in the heart of Cebu City. It has the most unique bike route that will pass in front of the Basilica del Santo Niño going to the coast line of South Road Properties before going back to Osmeña Boulevard.
The roads will be totally closed to traffic making it the only time where in you can pedal your bike up to 40-50 kph.
The swim part, on the other hand, will be at the CCSC pool where in triathletes will start in different waves. The organizers have lowered the registration fees for the relay to encourage beginners to join and get the feel of a triathlon race.
In addition, Cornerstone Group has added a 12-15 years old category to encourage the young athletes to join. Registration fee is pegged at P2,800 for individual and P6,000 for relay. CCT 3 is sponsored by Cemex, Smart, Cebu City Sports Commission and Philippine Sports Commission (PSC). Registration is now ongoing at Autofocus bikeshop in Banawa, Drawingboard Inc., Metrohub, Bikecology and CCSC office. You can also register online at cornerstone8080events.com.
Aside from the 3rd CCT, Cornerstone group will also have a series of races for year 2017 that include Rotary Triathlon on June, Sogod 8080 Triathlon on July and San REM 8080 on November.
Meanwhile, XTerra Off Road Triathlon will also be making a comeback in the Queen City of the South on April 24. It will be held for the first time in Danao City.
This is one of my favorite triathlon races because of the mountain bike route. The skills in bike and run play a big factor in winning or losing the race.
Other races to look forward this summer are TRI MERIDA happening on May 6 in Merida, Leyte. There are four categories in this event—men’s and women’s open, sprint distance relay, team challenge relay and tri kids.
The special rates for the early registration (December 1-March 15) of this event is P1,500 for the individual classes and P3000 for the team events. The regular registration (March 16-April 20) rates are P 1,800 and P3,500.
The activities are part of the prelude to the Centenary Fiesta Celebration of their patron saint San Isidro Labrador which is on May 14-15.It will be the first ever triathlon competition and observe how this humble town makes a difference in Philippine tourism at the local level.
If you have any questions about the race please call 09159681116 and find Alloyd Van Wenceslao.
For those who want to do a full distance triathlon, then you can join the TABUELAN226 Triathlon scheduled on September 16 in Maravilla, Tabuelan. This full distance race is not a joke because it covers a 3.8K swim, 180K bike and a 42K full marathon.
It is the ultimate triathlon race and first ever full distance in the Province of Cebu. You can check out www.race.ph/tabuelan226 for the registration details.
Early Bird registration rate is P12,500 starting from December 4, 2016 to January 31.
Only early registrants' race kits will be personalized with their complete names on the medals and nicknames on the finisher shirts. Regular rate will be P14, 500. Registration ends on June 30, 2017.
A holy mass will be done followed by a sumptuous dinner buffet and live entertainment during the race briefing. Spectacular fireworks display will also set the mood of the race. Water stations are located pm every single kilometer of the course which offers ice-cold water, soda and fruits to help athletes complete their race even until after cut-off time.
The locals are also encouraging as they sit alongside the bike/run course while cheering for the athletes.
During the bike course, safety is guaranteed as traffic will be controlled and closely monitored by bike marshals. After crossing the finish line, athletes are greeted with a finishers’ medal, a good meal and lots of fluids.
Cut off time is as follows, Swim course will be closed in 2 hours and 20 minutes from race start, while the bike course will close in 10 hours and 30 minutes.
No drafting is permitted. The event will close 17 hours after the start of the race but since we are expecting a lot of first timers, we will wait until the last athlete finishes the race even beyond the official cut-off time.
TABUELAN226 is headed by Mayor Rex Gerona and his organizing team. Mayor Rex is an accomplished athlete and triathlete himself who completed countless of IRONMAN 70.3 races and full marathons. The Mayor assures that the race would be unforgettable and has checked every single detail. He has tapped over 400 volunteers from Department of Education, youth sectors, municipal officials and barangay officials.
