Is having a turtle pet at home or in the office bad luck? By God and feng shui, a big no! Quite the contrary, it's very lucky.
Way I learned early, back in college, about the good-luck influence of turtle, way before I mastering the science of feng shui. A peer from Cebu, Agnes Quisumbing, wore a prominent jade turtle pendant around her neck. I asked her, "Isn't it supposed to brign bad luck, as folks say the turtle is slow?" She related that, being Chinese, in their family the turtle is considered the luckiest charm of all.
Indeed, later in life, I learned that turtle was the origin of feng shui sciences with its so-called magic square lo shui derivatives that calculate one's feng shui fortunes and destiny! Thus it was the luckiest feng shui symbol and charm, affirming what Ms. Quisumbing had told me.
Many of my clients have benefited from using turtle symbols or lucky charms to boost their careers, prosperity as well as personal wellbeing. Here, let me share a few of them:
Years back, singer Bimbo Cerrudo was worried about his career. He has just a few bookings - hard times that befell many other show business entertainers. He called me to ask for a lucky charm to wear in order to boost his career. Very timely, he was in Boracay when he called, and I advised him to get a silver turtle pendant at a popular shop there. After that, as he had me feng shui him annually for the next five years. He acquired a new property, which he credits to his "turtle!"
Even big-time companies are not exempt. Manila North Tollways Corporation had a P13 billion stranded loan for almost a decade for rehabilitating the North Luzon Expressway back then. CFO Gary Espino asked me for a feng shui remedy to their problem. After comprehensive office feng shui of their Ortigas office, the ultimate placement of a turtle figurine on his desk auspiciously captured the attention of a Sumitomo Bank executive, who upon learning the purpose of the turtle, approved the loan!
An Iglesia ni Cristo engineer had supernatural ghost-manifestation problems both at home and at work. Turtle was also the ultimate feng shui cure. Despite his religious faith, out of desperation he resorted to feng shui and a turtle at home and at work solved his concerns.
An Ateneo honor graduate had his mom ask me how he could find a job. The son having been unemployed for over half year since graduation and being not a believer in feng shui, I advised the mother to get a turtle-decorated wind chime. After hanging it by the north side of his bedroom, the son was quickly recruited into the fast-track banking management programs of a multinational bank. With his acquired financial prowess, he has since decided to join in the management of their rice mill to help his dad. The family owns the largest rice mill in Nueva Ecija, the Philippines' rice granary province.
A couple approached me with a retrenchment problem. The husband found it difficult to get another job, him being overaged (at that time, 54 years old). But after having a turtle, he got hired and even up to now regularly gets offerings on the side!
Another couple got a turtle, and managed to sell their house as they planned and the husband also found a lucrative job. The wife asking me if turtles were lucky for finding a job, to which I answered in the affirmative. Another urban legend circulating in Makati circles tells of how one youngest son of a retail tycoon took care of over 200 pet turtles in his backyard at home and found himself elected president way over the succession line of his brothers and sister!
Even turtle tattoos are lucky as many have found jobs abroad, got promoted, or able to board ship as seamen with it. Truly amazing. No wonder our Philippine turtles are being poached not only for food by Asian fishermen neighbors but for good luck and prosperity as well with the leftover turtle shells as decors!
To end my story here, my dad's brother, a chief of police back then in our hometown, caught poachers slaying a green sea turtle by the beach. Since the turtle had died, he decided to just keep the remnant shell. He hanged it on the north side of his living area at home, without any feng shui knowledge. In the next election, he was drafted as vice-mayor and won!
Incidentally, I've had encountered turtle pets named "Speedy" or "Speedo," and, oh, how owners cry a river when their turtles quickly disappear or die! Humor aside, either as figurines or live pets turtles are indeed lucky gifts! Even turtle tattoos work too!
