A Season of Giving

Yasunari Ramon Suarez Taguchi - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – A creative presentation by kindred spirits - visual and literary artists - opened at the new Robinsons Galleria on December 18, prefiguring the new mall's upcoming art and creative exhibitions.

Titled "A Season of Giving," the show matches works by 12 visual artists with poems written by seven Cebuano writers - beautiful collaborations between distinct creative disciplines.

With the spirit of Christmas being the show's central theme, a number of the featured wall-mounted paintings and poems depict realities that are traditionally associated with the "most wonderful time of the year," hence the exhibit's title.

But just as the creative field is known to be unhindered and boundless, works that delve into common year-end musings - mostly thoughts on the tides of change and feelings of nostalgia, melancholy, euphoria and ennui - are also included in the show.

Well aware that if nothing is wrong in life then nothing in it can be right, "A Season of Giving" mirrors the day-to-day bargains we broker or accept in our daily undertakings - documenting what the meaning of Christmas has become now with interpretations of Christmas' purpose and meaning.

Presented by the Art Council of Cebu and Robinsons Galleria with the support of the Alliance Francaise Cebu and the Mugna Group, the exhibit is open to the public. It runs until December 27 at the second level (located in front of National Bookstore) at the new Robinsons Galleria.
