CEBU, Philippines - The featured art exhibit of Cebu Artists Inc. (CAI) for the month of October opened on Monday, October 5. Titled “Paglaum sa Gugma,” the exhibit doesn’t only feature the works of Cebu’s creative talents – it also has a compassionate purpose, as it is dedicated to breast cancer awareness.
On display at the 2nd level expansion wing of the Ayala Center Cebu until October 31, the show gathers a variety of paintings and creative installations by the members and friends of one of Cebu’s longest-running creative special interest groups.
Though the featured pieces are different from each other in terms of creative scope and style, they all celebrate life’s beauty and wonders amidst the harrowing implications of one of the world’s dreaded afflictions – breast cancer.
From representational visual tableaus to art nouveau compositions, the show presents works that lead viewers through different scenes embodying beauty’s healing and nurturing values – as perceived and transliterated by local artistes, both the already well-known and the yet up-and-coming.
Collectively, “Paglaum sa Gugma” goes beyond the wisdom that’s implied by its title. Its presented pieces remind viewers that there is hope in love – that with love, we get to discover who we really are, we get to learn what true strength is, and we can teeter the flags of life’s challenges and adversities.
