CEBU, Philippines - More than 50 guests, industry partners and members of the media took part in a fun event on September 23 – the introduction and welcome party for the new general manager of one of Mactan’s five-star resort.
Dubbed “Tour de Mactan,” it was a fun-filled afternoon of outdoor games, ‘trisikad’ assembling and ‘trisikad’ race to welcome Nicholas Smith as the new general manager of Shangri-la’s Mactan Resort and Spa.
Smith was previously at the helm of Jing An Shangri-la in West Shanghai, Smith and has been with the Shangri-la group for several years already. He has been instrumental in leading the hotel group’s properties across Asia. His career highlights includes seeing through the opening of three five-star hotels in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
An avid outdoor enthusiast and a supporter of outreach initiatives, Smith was instrumental in spearheading the Futian Shangri-la, Shenzen’s “Ride for Hope” in 2013 – a cycling charity fundraiser for the benefit a community in southern China.
His personal passion for cycling served as the metaphorical anchor of last Wednesday’s “Tour de Mactan.” The five ‘trisikads’ that were assembled during the event were to be donated to Barangay Tingo, Olango Island – the resort’s adopted beneficiary for its social responsibility initiatives.
