The Colors of America

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The American occupation of the Philippines has left a good number of indelible marks. One of the most notable marks of the lingering American influence on the Filipino psyche is in the area of fashion. The formal dressing style adopted in the country has always been, for the most part, distinctly classic American.

American fashion statement using hats, long-sleeve coat over long-sleeve polo, all with matching neck tie, have always been around during important occasions since the American occupation. One example of the American influence in Filipino fashion is found in the works of budding fashion designer Winston Sy, whose creations commonly bear the colors of America. He finds the red, white and blue of the American flag to always make a fabulous style statement.

The color red symbolizes valor and exudes self-assurance, an important element of glamour. When complemented with lace, the color takes on a delicate tone without sacrificing the overall flair of confidence. Ever wonder why it's always glamorous to walk on the 'red' carpet?

In a red gown, the silhouette shows off the hour glass figure. And the color is very romantic, too. A girl easily paints the town red in a red, lacey, fully beaded, long-sleeve, round-neck ensemble. And a backless surprise is sure to wow everybody.

A midnight blue, crystal, bead- and sequin-laden Serpentia is another awesome piece. With its risqué plunging neckline in sheer tulle it no doubt tickles the imagination. The long train sweeps the tract, in almost the same way the lady is swept off her feet by her man. The color blue gives off a flair of good poise and substance.

The man can't go wrong with a suit set. Mikado silk tailored suit and tapered pants set conveys good breeding and good taste. It fits right whether in chaperoning a lady or at the corporate boardroom.
