CEBU, Philippines – Local folk dance performances entertained the audience at the Mandaue City Ibabao Gymnasium on November 14, 2014. It was a competition highlighting the City Division Meet. The performers were sixteen participating schools comprising the secondary and elementary levels of the Department of Education, Mandaue City Division.
Casili Elementary School and Tabok National High School were the overall champions in their respective levels. Their winning numbers were the "Maguigguinocan," an occupational dance and "Desposorio," a Bulacan festival and wedding dance, respectively. Second placers were Banilad Elementary School and Mandaue City Science High School, performing "Jota Camarines" and "Lanceros de Tayabas," respectively. At third place were Mandaue City Central School and Don Gerardo Memorial National High School for their respective performances of "Jota Camarines" and "Miligoy de Cebu," a published folk dance originating from Consolacion, Cebu.
The competition was capped with an avant-garde production of "I am Mandaue," a jingle that is fast gaining popularity among Mandauehanons. The activity was directed by Division Cultural Coordinator Niño G. Matillano, assisted by EPS I- MAPEH Dr. Adeline C. Luarez, under the leadership of Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Virginia C. Zapanta.
