Of Crosses and New Perspectives

Swiss-born but Manila-based jewelry designer and sculptor Hans Brumann is a passionate craftsman.

Last October 10, Qube Gallery presented Brumann’s “Cruces,” an exhibition of his signature crosses and wall-bound art sculptures that showcased a fusion of mother-of-pearl with wood elements using geometric styles. Brumann is an expert goldsmith, stone-setter, and gemologist, and he used his skills as the handmaiden of his creative mind to produce minimalist yet classic pieces that kept everyone talking during the opening of the exhibit.

Many also participated in the silent auction of two of his most unique crosses, the Cross XXVI and XXIX; the proceeds of which were going to the Mandaue Children’s choir who put everyone in awe as they serenaded guests that night. Another highlight of the special event was the debut of Cebu Brewing Company’s craft beer, giving everyone a taste of local brewery goodness.

At the end of the night, art enthusiasts gained new perspectives on an otherwise mundane object. Various possibilities and ideas opened up for them, all because an artist decided to share his art and allowed others to see through his eyes.
