Halloween costume ideas

Carlo Rivera - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Halloween is here.

Business establishments have been decorating their shops with spooky accents - spider webs, bats, pumpkin heads and all other creepy

creatures. Scary programs have of late been showing on TV and horror movies in cinema

houses. The spooky vibe is definitely all over.

Costume parties are very much a part of the Halloween celebration. For sure by now these are already popping up both in the homes and in the neighborhoods. Everyone must already be trying to outdo one another; the scarier the outfits, the better or more fun the party.

It's actually easy to organize a Halloween costume party. Participants need not spend for the costumes at all. Most of the items to be used may just be hiding inside "the closets."

Emily Co, writing at www.popsugar.com, an online media network of websites oriented towards female audience, presents the following simple do-it-yourself Halloween costume ideas to spice up the Halloween celebration:

Ghost

Halloween parties and celebrations will never be complete without ghosts. Probably, ghost costume is the most popular and the easiest way to be done. Just get a white sheet of cloth and cut out two holes for the eyes and one for the mouth. Be creative in dressing the sheet up with some makeup, put a blush on and smear a lipstick.

Fortune teller

Set the spookiness by dressing up like a fortune teller. Impress people around you with some gypsy magic and have fun walking around telling bad and lucky fortunes to your friends. All you have to do is to create some do-it-your-own costume. Get a head scarf, sparkly tops probably with sequins on it, a long skirt, and a shawl to adorn over your shoulders. Wear gold and flashy jewelries from earrings, necklace to rings. Don't forget to wear dark or shadowy makeup around the eyes to make it more sensual, and always bring that mysterious smile on your face.

Mummy

Mummy costumes are also an ideal outfit to wear during parties. It maybe an unsexy costume but it is fun to make it. All you need to do is put on first white clothes then roll some toilet paper around you. To make it more scary and spooky, add some ketchup or red food coloring for a creepy effect.

Mime

If you want to shut your mouth for the rest of the costume party, then mime costume best suits for you. It's best when you want to give your voice a break for the night and express yourself through actions. Here's what you need to do: get some cheap white face paint and paint your face with it, and wear red lipstick. If you have black clothes or a striped white and black top, wear that. Of course, the white gloves will complete the outfit.

Jellyfish

If you want to sting others this Halloween, a jellyfish do-it-your-own outfit suits for you. Just get a clear umbrella or perhaps an old umbrella. For the stingers, use the side of the umbrella using materials such as thin strips of fabrics, strings or ribbons.

Big Kid

For the kids at heart, shine your inner child with this Big Kid Halloween costume. Get your best pajamas out and tie your hair in high ponytails. Wear natural make-up and carry around a teddy bear. Wear furry slippers if you have them.

It's a costume party, and if it's not specified that only scary get-ups are allowed, some participants may opt to try other costume ideas - mythology figures, famous deceased personalities etc. All it takes is imagination. (FREEMAN)
