CEBU, Philippines - The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day, the largest volunteer effort in the world for the ocean's health, takes place today, September 20. Over a hundred countries worldwide, spearheaded by their US-based mother organization, Ocean Conservancy, are participating in today's activities.
Ocean Conservancy has been able to remove over 145 million pounds of unwelcome debris from the ocean in just under three decades. With this year's theme "Turning the Tide," everyone is encouraged to participate and be counted in the cause of clearing the oceans of human trash.
Locally, volunteers from the Lapu-Lapu City government and private companies such as Cebu Pacific, Smart, Universal Robina Corporation and Megaworld are joining today’s coastal clean-up activities. (FREEMAN)
